<p class="Head2"><a name="wortergaenzung"/>Automatic word completion</p>
<p class="Paragraph">Use this tab to specify whether you want to use the word completion and the minimum word length at which AutoComplete should be activated. Enter a value for the minimum length and the maximum number of words that can be included. Words shorter than the <span class="T1">minimum word length</span> are never included. All words of sufficient length contained in all documents opened since the last startup of <help:productname xmlns:help="http://openoffice.org/2000/help">%PRODUCTNAME</help:productname> will be taken into account, up to the maximum number of words.</p>
<p class="Paragraph">As soon as you type a word again, <help:productname xmlns:help="http://openoffice.org/2000/help">%PRODUCTNAME</help:productname> recognizes it and completes it. If you want to type something different than what's suggested, simply ignore the suggestion and continue typing. If you accept the suggestion, press the Enter key, space bar, arrow right key, or End key and then type the next word. <help:productname xmlns:help="http://openoffice.org/2000/help">%PRODUCTNAME</help:productname> automatically inserts spaces if you do not enter an end-of-sentence character.</p>
<p class="Paragraph">The desired word does not always appear, since the word is completed after the third letter typed. When there are several words in AutoCorrect's memory that begin with the same letters, you can view the alternatives and select the one you want. When the completed word is displayed, press the <help:switch select="System" xmlns:help="http://openoffice.org/2000/help"><help:case select="MAC">Command</help:case><help:default>Ctrl</help:default></help:switch>+Tab keys. A new completion will appear immediately for as long as words are available. You can scroll through the suggestions in the opposite direction with <help:switch select="System" xmlns:help="http://openoffice.org/2000/help"><help:case select="MAC">Command</help:case><help:default>Ctrl</help:default></help:switch>+ Shift + Tab.</p>
<p class="Paragraph"><help:productname xmlns:help="http://openoffice.org/2000/help">%PRODUCTNAME</help:productname> may need time to create the active list in the background for very long texts, since the list of word completions is not saved. The list is deleted when <help:productname xmlns:help="http://openoffice.org/2000/help">%PRODUCTNAME</help:productname> is closed.</p>
<p class="Paragraph"><help:help-text value="visible" xmlns:help="http://openoffice.org/2000/help">Check this box to display the suggestions for the automatic word completion either as a highlighted text or in the Help Tip when writing a text.</help:help-text></p>
<p class="Paragraph"><help:help-text value="visible" xmlns:help="http://openoffice.org/2000/help">Check this field to compile the suggestions in a list. This list is displayed as a list box in this register, which enables you to view and edit it.</help:help-text></p>
<p class="Paragraph"><help:help-text value="visible" xmlns:help="http://openoffice.org/2000/help">Check this box to endlessly flip through the list containing the suitable suggestions using <help:switch select="System"><help:case select="MAC">(Command)</help:case><help:default>(Ctrl)</help:default></help:switch>(Tab) (forward) and, <help:switch select="System"><help:case select="MAC">(Command)</help:case><help:default>(Ctrl)</help:default></help:switch>(Shift)(Tab) (backwards). This means that after seeing the last suggestion, you'll see the first entry again.</help:help-text> If you don't check this box, you will stop at the end or at the beginning of the list.</p>

<p class="Paragraph"><help:help-text value="visible" xmlns:help="http://openoffice.org/2000/help">This list contains the collected words. This list lasts until you close <help:productname>%PRODUCTNAME</help:productname>.</help:help-text> Select the words by clicking them or to deselect single words. Click a word while pressing the Shift key to select all words contained between the last selected word and the currently selected word.</p>
<p class="Paragraph">You can copy all the selected words in the list to the clipboard using <help:switch select="System" xmlns:help="http://openoffice.org/2000/help"><help:case select="MAC">(Command)</help:case><help:default>(Ctrl)</help:default></help:switch>(C). Afterwards insert the content of the clipboard, say, in a new empty text document and save it as a reference word list. You then get a text document that you can manually expand or edit as you want.</p>
<p class="Paragraph">When you work again in a text that needs several of these words once more, activate the <span class="T1">Collect suggestions</span> check box contained in the <span class="T1">Word Completion</span> tab and then open the word reference list. Your words will be included in the list. Deactivate now the <span class="T1">Collect suggestions</span> check box and switch to the text document. The suggestions from the word reference list are now available in the new text document.</p>
<p class="Paragraph"><help:help-text value="visible" xmlns:help="http://openoffice.org/2000/help">Removes the selected words from the list.</help:help-text></p>
